Cheers for the comment Bob, especially good to see a response from someone who was there.

Reports have been conflicting- I’d heard that buses were laid on to take fans to the veledrome from Piccadily Gardens, but whether thats true or not I have no idea. A lot of people have said the police there were being quite unhelpful- it seems like the square itself had too many fans in it. You would have thought then that the Council would’ve used the larger parks for fanzones to accomodate more fans.

Seems like there was a lot of disorganisation involved and I can understand there being frustration, but the people involved have really shamed Rangers. No matter how angry they are, there is no reason to go out and attack police, smash up a city and terrify people. Lots of innocent fans have been caught up in this, and its they I have great sympathy with.

I’ve also read about English firms and I think there could well have been, but there were many in Rangers colours with Scottish accents involved.

Its just a shame the football was not the main talking point.

With regards to the screen failing causing the riots to kick off. My brother and a few friends were in Manchester for the game and all bar my brother were in Piccadilly Gardens. When the screen failed they eventually got a message up on the screen to say it wasn’t working and to head to the other fan zone which was’5 minutes’ away. No directions or anything like that. One group made it to the other fan zone half an hour later after having to ask several policeman on the way as there was no way for them to get directions any other way. By the time the rest of the crowd at Piccadilly Gardens found out where they were supposed to actually go (excluding the few that decided it was better to take out their anger on anyone around them) the riot police were already surrounding the area with batons raised. A lot of people in the crowdshots you see didn’t actually want to be there or have anything to do with the violence but just couldn’t get out of the area.

The running battles later on were supposed to have involved both a rangers firm and a chelsea firm going on teeshirts and accents as well as your average ordinary drunken thug out to ruin us anyway.

Rangers fans are scum. they should learn how to behave before they are allowed to travel. They were obviously only well behaved in the earlier rounds because things were going their way. You saw the hoops getting beat in seville but they did not stab anyone or riot. it is just ridiculous. incidently i would not let them back in Europe next season because the pictures from manchester were horrendous. No huns in europe, no huns in europe. give it to the 8th placed team i say. they deserve it.
I’d like to say thank you to the rangers fans who have managed to bring the scottish nation back about 30 years.
